Default A Sample of Top Gear America

I was talking to Alex about this at the track this weekend. I thought I would share since I saw it on the Audi forum. Doesn't seem like it is going to be nearly as good as the original. Cheers.

God, what an aweful trio!!!! Amazing how often we try to re-do Brit TV and completely screw it up. We dorkis should give it a try and show them how it works. So, which dorki is to be the Stig?

car shows never work when it's either a group of auto-nerds talking about compression ratios, or it's a group of jocko meatheads high-fiving and showing off their burnouts. you need a bit of both. that's the genius of the UK Top Gear. it's some good-time boys thrashing hot cars around, but they also know enough about cars, and are smart enough besides, to make it appealing to aficionados. this US show is all high-fives and no discourses on metallurgy. le fail.

I'd watch Clarkson, May and Hammond test lawn tractors, but don't think I could sit through these guys reviewing a GT3 RS with Sofia Vergarrrrra riding shotgun.

...Well maybe I'd watch with the sound off...

I recognize Tanner Foust from some shows where he shows that he has amazing car control. I don't recognize either of the other two. The fact that they are mimicing anything NASTYCAR related indicates to me that this show has been TOO Americanized. That clip was fun, jumping beaters on an off road coarse has to be fun, but is just ain't TopGear.

the "history channel" needs to change their name.

right now they have:
"american pickers" - look at this old crap we found
"pawn stars" - i'll give you 10% of your asking price on your old stuff and then insult chumlee
"ice road truckers" - look, it's cold and we're driving over the water
"ax men" - hey look, trees.

and a bunch of other "reality show" junk. occasionally you have something actually about history.

And half of the shows on the Travel channel are food/cooking shows. I agree that a big part of traveling is food (for me, at least), but there are at least 2-3 dedicated food channels for that.
