My car will hover at 2000 when stopped. I have to tap the gas pedal to get it to go back to normal? It's like the cruise control is on but it's not!

My best guess: I think the carreras have an idle switch. Maybe if releasing slowly something is hanging a little and not getting quite shut. Check to see if a rapid lift will get it to idle normally w/o the subsequent tap?

Im guessing when your coming to a stop and the rpms stay high, you're lifting your foot off the gas slowly (and its dragging/catching/not quite closing.) The 'tap' you use to fix it is probably done rapidly and the quick lift of the pedal allow momentum to carry it all the way shut. So, drive it normally (or whatever you're doing thats causing it to high idle) but lift your foot off the gas real quick and see if it changes behavior.
You could also try lifting the pedal a little w/ your foot (or just reach down there) and see if that will make it rev down instead of 'tapping'. If one of those do 'fix' it, then you know the throttle isn't shutting all the way for some reason and the next step would be to figure out why (or just readjust the idle switch position These are just ideas Im throwing out. I know the carrera has an idle switch, but no clue what the motronic ecu does w/ that signal. Though I would surmise that it should change fuel/timing and drive the IAC (idle air control) valve when the switch is activated. Thats what other programmable ecus will do when the idle detect is active.

Wong chips come with directions that include directions for adjusting the idle control switch.

I had high idle problems after I installed my chip. Followed the instructions and was good to go.
