more brake stuff...
got another pair of "core" calipers for my 944... still on the fence as to rebuild myself or send them off to have them professionally done. Problem is that I just don't have all the equipment that I'd want to do this... is there anyone local that does cleaning/blasting for cheap? How about powdercoating? Also looking for a recommendation on brake pads. this is a street driven car and whatever pads are on there now are just putting ludicrous amounts of dust on the wheels simply in normal driving. I'll probably go ahead and redo the brakes even though they're not due simply because I can't stand the pads; I can't clean the wheels often enough to keep them from getting all messed up. thanks nate

For the street, throw some Metal Masters on there. They are cheap and had so they last forever and don't dust much. I can even get them to survive on the M3 at the track with street tires, but on the 911, they vaporize at the track. They are fine for the street though.

I thought Metal Masters were supposed to have particularly nasty dust? or am I confusing what I've heard with another pad?

I can't imagine what wouldn't have dust on a German car. I swapped out the track pads (finally) on my green 944 for the metal masters or mintex or whatever stock is. Cleaned the car up real good for sale. I drove it to Hershey and back and the front wheels still had a light coating on them.

Light coating I can deal with, as long as it doesn't immediately eat into the paint and washes off with normal cleaning methods. The stuff that's on there now is distilled evil, and it doesn't help that I rattle-canned my wheels.
Any thoughts on the calipers? I can disassemble and degrease them, but I'd like to either paint or powdercoat them and I don't have a blast cabinet (or a compressor for that matter. I keep threatening to build another room on the garage for a compressor and furnace, but it hasn't happened yet.) nate

Metal Master dust isn't bad. Washes of easily.

Stick with the stockers. Porsche spent lots of time thinking this through for you.

We've been using Hawk HPS pads on several cars now which are street driven, tracked & autox'd. Very happy with the performance versus price. Dusting is moderate, and easily washed off.
