Default FUBAR'ed compressor motor

OK time to get off the pot! My compressor’s motor packed it in a few months ago. Started by occasionally throwing the breaker but now won’t start at all. Need some good links for electric motor testing for dummies. Never been much of a “sparky” but I know some of yous guys can volt and ohm with the best of em. If it matters it’s a 150 PSI, 5.5 HP, 30 gallon Sears, upright POS. Motor and compressor are one unit

Might be time to buy a real one... seems these don't last more than 3 or 4 years.

Have you checked the pressure switch first?

If it has trouble starting but runs just fine once going, its likely a bad start capacitor or switch.

Looks like Kurt had the magic! He’ll have to provide the details but apparently some thing-a-ma-jig in the motor used for restart under pressure needed adjustment. Will have to check the manual but it also looks like the restart pressure is set high enough to exacerbate the problem. Thanks again Kurt!
