Quite a lot of fun, actually. Particularly when you're driving an Audi A6 2.7 turbo!
I went out on the A2 between Wolfsburg and Berlin at about 2 am last night. Fewer cars to get in your way at that hour. Edged above 230 km/h in a few spots but the car started to feel 'light' at that speed, so in the interest of self-preservation, I decided not to reach for the camera. It's amazing how fast the fuel gauge goes down at that speed. At $1.23 euros / liter, there's real truth to the saying "Speed costs money - How fast do you want to go?"

Nice trip, and a nice car for it!
230kph is about 138mph. Fortunately for my wallet the BMW 320 turbodiesel will also haul up to that speed and still got 39mpg at 100mph cruise

For the metricly impaired:
210 km/h = 130.2 mph 230 km/h = 142.6 mph Around 230 km/h is about where the Audi topped out at. It was still accelerating, but soooo slowly at that point it doesn't really count. Porsche truly is the ruler of the Autobahn. Even at well above 200 km/h, twice I moved over a lane because some variety of 997 was coming up behind me scary fast like. I slide over a lane and they tore past like I was standing still. I can't imagine how fast they were driving. -- Now I know how the other folks in my run group feel!

Having lived in Germany for most of my adult life until I moved here to the DC area 13 years ago, I can say your assertion that the Porsche is the ruler of the Autobahn is very much correct. I had my first P-car there. It was a 74 911 Targa. I loved that car. I got to drive it from the Giessen area to Frankfurt nearly every day. That car was able to maintain 140-150 mph easily, even with the top removed. Far too much fun for a 21 year old "kid". I'd love to take my Boxster on that same stretch of A5 to see how it feels in comparison.

The A6 is my favorite rental car, the only one better is actually the Ford Mondeo, it gets better mileage and can go just a little faster. I head back on Monday to pick-up my new company car as it was cheaper to buy a car instead of rent every month. I asked for a GT3 in Red, they thought I was kidding, the guy who ordered it wouldnt tell me what it is so I am not holding out for anything too exciting. Enjoy your time in Germany, hit all the car company museums if you get a chance they all have some great cars on display.

I got a brand spanking new A4 2.7T wagon last time I was there. It had 18km on it when I picked it up at Tegel. On the way back to the airport from Halle, I was doing about 240km/h for most of the way and got passed regularly like I was standing still and not by any Porsches. I remember my friends in Halle telling me to budget 3-4 hrs. for that drive in traffic. Made it in 90 min.
You should have seen that hwy. between Wolfsburg and Berlin in the old days, when East Germany existed. Once inside the DDR, they clocked you from the time you entered until you showed up at West Berlin/Potsdam. If the Vopo cop cars didn't get you on the way, they got you at the end when their clocking you proved you were vastly exceeding their speed limit. Even a stop at the Intershop along the way wouldn't help you, since they had Stasi and border guards noting that too. Such a police state.
