Default SC emissions

I passed the sniffer test today, .12 CO, 61ppm HC. (the 3mm allen is your friend)

Just curious, how low was your reading when you passed? The car is usually set at ~2.5%CO, but the MD limit is 1.2. I was surprised at the reading, I was expecting ~1%, oh well, passing is passing I guess.

BTW the car has SSI's

Good to know Chris as I'm going in for emissions and safety next week.

What procedure did you use to dial back the CO%? Did you just dial it back until idle stumbled, or sniffer, etc?

I have the Gunson testor, but this time I just went 1/2 turn lean. A little backfire on startup let me know it was lean, good in this case. From my experience, lean it out until the idle drops a little, maybe to 750-800rpm. The plugs, cap and rotor and valve adjustment are all recent, so that had something to do with it too I guess.

BTW The best part is watching the guy look for a car under the center of the car with the mirror. Today they checked both sides of the car. Too funny.

Was this your last inspection? Md stops at 25 years?
If so congrats!

The last I herd they stopped the equiptment check. I guess they started back up. Did they mistake the SSI's for a cat?

Glad to hear you passed with the SSI's and no cat.

I think mine is comming up in the next few months.
I'm glad it can be done.

I dunno about the 25 yr thing, the red car (1978) went through last month. They looked under the car for the cat, but didnt pop the hood, although I am sure they would have looked in the trunk.

No cat. 8)

My brother registered his 73 a few months ago. No emissions and no safety inspection with historic plates. I think there may be some mileage restrictions.

I'm supprised emissions was required on the 78. Maybe you have to apply for the historic plates to avoid it?

I think that's what it is. I had historics on my SL and never had a problem, but dmv told me they were for parades and show's only.

Maryland will check from 1977 onward forever for emissions unless you apply for historic status (25 years) . Also a car that has historic status does not have to go through state inspection when sold.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Do you know what restrictions go with the historic application?
BTW, do you know if the standards have stayed the same for a particular car over time? In other words have they relaxed the standards for older cars or have the standards been consistant over time?
