I'm getting a Targa harness bar made with harness guide hoops. I was asked what spacing I wanted for the hoops. Does anyone have any suggestions, measurements, etc. for proper hoop placement? Is there a generic measurement that will work well or is this 'seat specific'?
TIA

Charlie,
The harness hoop spacing usually comes in two forms: - stock seats, where the harnesses run around the back of the seat or - race seats, where the harnesses run through cutouts in the seat back. That should be all you need to specify.

ok...
Going to be running stock seats for the time being, then possibly switch to race seats at a later time. Is there a happy medium between the spacing? Maybe I should have been more specific. Thom (on the Pelican Parts board) is fabbing one up for me, so I think he wants to know exact mesaurements. Was hoping someone with a Targa (with a harness bar/harnesses) could give me some decent measurements (from pillar to first hoop, first hoop to 2nd hoop). Thanks again.

We use the Brey Kraus harness bar w/an older style roll bar. Spacing has seen ideal with the stock seats, the DADs, and my Kirky racing seat. If you can wait I’ll measure it tomorrow and repost or you can e-mail Kraus for the dimensions. Since mine is for a coupe I’ll measure from the center line to eliminate the width differences between coups & Targas.

While your measuring, how high is the bar? Off the floor or some other point?
Thanks!

These bars typically mount using the stock upper shoulder harness bolt on either side. So height would be at the horizontal between those two points.

Hi charlie,
I have a BK bar in my garage that came out of my 78SC. If you need to see how it would fit into your targa, you are welcome to pick it up and installed it into your ride and take measurements. Or you can test different loop positions on the bar to your seats. Andy

David, I'm not sure my cab has the same height sholder belt attachment.
I was hoping to use the mount points for the porsche factory roll bar. I'm now thinking that it won't work because it's a few inches lower. Possibly below sholder height. I'm planning to keep the stock seats for now but alos planning for the future. I do need to buy/build a roll bar. So I'm looking to determine the height for a horizontal bar that will also be used to attach a harness. Thanks!

Using a harness bar in a coup is a poor idea, in a cab, well just say not good
There are some on this site that have installed bars in cabs to good effect. Adding harness guides to the horizontal brace of a roll bar would use the same center line measurements.
