Default Door Strikers

A word to the wise--

The door strikers on both sides on my car need to be replaced. I found this out the hard way, driving 4 hours back from the beach holding my driver-side door closed with one hand while steering with the other. It is the plastic "latch arm" that deteriorated. It is also pretty shot on the passenger side, so I'm replacing both strikers. You used to be able to get the latch arms separately, but apparently no more unless maybe used/junkyard. I can't afford the time to look. Also, if they're used, how much life is in them? The latch arms appear to made from that same crap as the mount/insulator for the car-side O2 lead, which also recently decomposed in my car. The life expectancy of this stuff is apparently 19 years. The substance looks like yellow wax and behaves like it when it wears out. I would suggest anybody with a Carrera or older model check these items.

Dan,
Sorry to laugh, but the mental picture this paints is priceless. You could have tied the doors shut with some rope and jumped in "Duke Boys" style.

One more thing to check on my ride...

Must be a Carerra-specific problem. :P

edit: OK, that wasn't helpful, was it? How 'bout this...I don't believe this is a problem on brown cars.

Yeah like going too fast . Don't blame the car, blame the owner .
Dan, I have one spare striker plate laying around somewhere you can have, it can get you back on the road until you get the new ones in.

Pari,
My wife asked me if you don't have a whole spare car over there. I didn't see it, but I'm not so sure.

Pari does have a surprisingly large amount of spare parts for someone whos only been a 911 owner for a year now. I have to remember to keep my garage locked from now on.

That's because you didn't see all the boxes of parts in my friend's barn, let alone the stuff stored in the basement.

Thanks Pari, I'm making do with a tie-down looped around the door handles. New strikers should be here Thurs.
