My recommendation would be to take it to a bonafide UPS or FedEx office, and pay the extra to have them pack it for shipping. That way, when you purchase insurance for the shipping, both you and the shipper are on the same page about what's being shipped, and they will assume more responsibility for the safe passage of your item. Make it clear that you NEED the item packaged for safe delivery. Then if something should happen to it enroute, your insurance claim back to them will be bolstered by the fact that they packed it for you, including picking the box and packing material. Make sure your insurance covers the cost of replacement or Class A repair of it.
