I still have the BMW "reader" and reset tool that worked for my old '91 325iX. You put it on the diagnostic socket and press a button. The codes then flash out on the SRS indicator light. I have a manual to decode the codes.
Bought it after the dealer was unable to read codes and wanted to charge me $1600 for a new ABS brain.
I'll dig it out tonight and send you more info.
