Default 1986 Porsche 944Turbo

This is the car that was listed here previously https://dorkiphus.net/porsche/showthread.php?t=38773

1986 Porsche 944 Turbo
Zermatt silver with burgundy leather interior
138,3550 miles
Factory Options:
158-Blaupunkt Monterey radio(has been replaced with aftermarket)
341 -Central locking system
418 -Body side molding
431 –leather steering wheel (has been replaced with aftermarket)
454 –Automatic speed control
650 -Sunroof
946 –Leather seats

The story:
I purchased this car in a non-running condition. Initial testing revealed low compression (60psi) across all cylinders with 60% past the rings. Also evidence of turbocharger malfunction of oil seals and endplay. Disassembly revealed piston rings fused into their gaps and severe bore scoring due to rocking pistons. More than likely, this was caused by poor flowing injectors (about 80% of their rated capacity) causing lean conditions as indicated by injector rehab service.

Prior owner repairs:
-ball joints replaced
-dash bulbs replaced and silver backing refurbished
-top end rebuild with O-ringed head, ported and polished
-Koni yellow struts and shocks installed
-250# H&R springs installed
-odometer gear replaced
-stainless steel braided brake lines
-new timing belts, pulleys, and water pump
-Weltmeister performance chipset
-DME/KLR refurbished

Repairs completed by me:
-Engine replaced with same year block, 89 turbo pistons
-new bearings, rings, gaskets
-replaced fuel injectors with cleaned, flow matched injector set
-rebuilt turbocharger by Evergreen Turbo
-new clutch friction plate, HD turbo cup spec
-rebuilt factory waste gate with shims
-returned to factory boost control and replaced hard lines and rubber vacuum lines
-cleaned and flushed intercooler
-replaced fuel lines with fire braided lines and new damper transfer line
-replaced fuel pressure regulator with stock unit
-replaced OEM air cleaner box and snorkel
-replaced front and rear brake rotors
-replaced front and rear brake pads with wear sensors eliminated
-replaced and repacked(Mobilith SC220 grease) front wheel bearings
-repaired windshield washer pump
-repaired broken window track in driver side door
-repaired broken central locking actuator lever in driver side door
-replaced rotted front door speakers
-replaced malfunctioning HVAC master control unit
-repaired/replaced broken clip on heater actuator door in HVAC unit
-replaced broken passenger sun visor retaining clip
-repaired/replaced engine compartment under trays
-repaired factory clock
-performed euro-tail light modification
-repaired broken front turn signal lens
-touched up several scratches on the exterior
-performed alignment on front wheels

The Results:
After the engine rebuild, the car is running wonderful. The chipset and shimmed waste gate allow this car to run at 1.8-1.9 bar about 15 psi on WOT. AFR ratios are good, 14.7-15.0 at part throttle, 12.5-13.5 at heavy throttle, and 10.8-11.2 at WOT. Brakes are functioning properly and pedal is stiff. Clutch engages properly. 0-60 time of 6.0 sec and ¼ mile time of 13.2 seconds on old tires and damp road surface.

The Truth:
The interior on this car is in remarkably good shape for a 34 year old car. It is obvious that it has spent most of its life out of the sun. Carpet is in good shape except for a tear in the plastic protector under the driver’s feet. Dash has some small minor cracks at defroster openings. Shifter knob leather is worn as well as Dino aftermarket steering wheel. The hatch has a creak that appears over bumps. I rate the interior an 8.8-9/10.
The exterior of the car has had some paintwork done on the passenger side. Paint matches well and some of the original paint is showing some minor micro cracking in the color coat in certain places. There are about 6 minor dings on the exterior. The most significant issue is the passenger side fender has a wrinkle at the bottom where a floor jack was misplaced at some point. I rate the exterior a 7.5-8/10.
Tires on the car are Kumho and have plenty of tread (8/32 on all four) however they have a 2011 build date and are stiff but not showing any cracks but probably should be replaced with new rubber. The A/C needs charged and a conversion kit is supplied with the sale.
This car is not a “show car” but presents well. It will make a great daily driver or track toy as it can be driven with confidence and the new owner will not have to worry about a rock chip or finding a parking place at the far end of the lot, or getting caught in the rain.

Optional:
The car will come with the original phone dial 16x7&8 rims. A set of recently professionally restored 16x7&8” Fuchs, as well as 16x7&8” BBS gold 3 piece lightweight RS wheels, and another set of 16” phone dials are available. Optional wheels are early offset and designed to fit this car properly. In addition, a Weltmeister adjustable front sway bar, B&B polished stainless exhaust, euro dual beam foglight/driving lights, and many other spare engine and accessory parts are available for additional charge.

Most recent Excellence Buying Guide lists value for this car and average to excellent condition from $9,000 to $17,000 . Hagerty lists values as; #4 at $6100, #3 at $13,300, #2 at $32,800, and #1 at $46,400. I estimate this car’s condition close to a #3 and taking into consideration for the new engine and clutch and all of the repairs made to be slightly higher than #3.

Asking price is $14,000 obo.
