Your welding helmets might not be dark enough. They recommend at least a 14 shade, and most welding helmets are only 13 shade. And, the auto-darkening ones may not go dark at all, since they're looking for a sudden bright flash to trigger, which you won't have from the eclipse.
Might want to just pick up some paper eclipse glasses.
Lowes sells some for $1.98, other stores probably have them too.
