Took a class at
Central Virginia Tactical w/ Ed Shell this weekend. Learned a LOT and had a blast. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to try out long distance. I'd only shot informally to ~400yds before. Here I am at the end of the 2nd day on a 1200yd target (0.7 miles.) The target is under the very tip of the arrow. 3 round hay bales(and target) just below and left are 1035 yds. Hay bales/target you can't make out in the clump of trees a little farther left is 1135yds. I'm helping spot for a friend in this pic - thus the open bolt. 12.0mil dialed in for Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr ELD. Shoots about a mil flatter than the older AMAX.
At 1200yds, its a little under 2sec flight time and a little over 3sec sound return time. So if you have electronic muffs turned up you can hear the 'ping' ~5 sec later. There is even enough time to cycle the bolt before you can spot your own impact (or miss

)
