Had a humidifier leak earlier in the winter so I disabled it until I could troubleshoot/ fix. Man, did that wreak havoc with some of the wood trim and flooring! A new filter and a cleaning took care of the leak. I had no clue about the needed maintenance, and none of the HVAC servicing I'd had done over the years included anyone opening up the unit. Until it started leaking I had no clue about the opening it up, performing maintenance, etc. Kinda like the condensate pump that no one looked at/ serviced for years until it stopped working and I had to troubleshoot. Seems like the typical once-a-year servicing by the HVAC guys often is just cleaning filters, vacuuming coils and cleaning out the exterior unit.
