I like the monster prototype idea as long as the competition stays close. No one enjoys watching cars walking away from the field.
As Nader mentioned, old-school F1 had half of the field break down at any given race. Furthermore, the respective speeds of the cars was much more disparate, even during the Cosworth DFV days when everyone ran the same engine.
