best way to reduce damage from deer is to thin the herd through sport hunting, particularly targeting does. if the herd cannot be thinned enough during regular season, WV DNR has a process for issuing wildlife damage permits allowing the taking of game animals out of season. worst thing you can do on a large tract of land in this regard is fail to hunt as this leads to over population of deer that will become a nuisance (including on adjacent parcels) due to lack of natural predators such as wolf and cougar.
