In the shift coupler area, mark (with a Sharpie) how far the female part covers the splines, then loosen the coupler at the spines (use 2 13mm wrenches). Don't loosen too much...
Now (helps to have a helper or a bungee cord) push the shifter all the way towards the drivers door, and then turn the shift coupler all the way towards the passenger's door. For perfect adjustment, I move mine back just one tiny spline's worth, then tighten there. That should fix your problem.
