I've used these for years on BMW timing belt changes and other cars with no failures. Heck, we even run NAPA belts on some of our p-cars ... and they don't fail.

I know there is a p-car device for tensioning ... however, when I used to change belts on volvos ... you'd have to get under there while the motor was running and tension the idler "just enough" so that the balance shaft [I think] wouldn't howl / groan. I am assuming you can't do the same with '44s b/c to many pieces are off the motor to let it run?
One of the dorki [you?] must have the '44 porsche tensioner tool ...
