Porsche changed it for cost, would be my guess.. I've known several 986 boxster folks who a/x (and therefore change wheels frequently) who have converted over without issue.

I imagine the same is true of some 996 guys. iirc, the grand-am spec 996's have to run 5-bolt studs (makes any pit changes under green quicker too).

I say go for it!

That said, if you aren't frequently changing wheels/tires, you might not really notice any benefit to the swap.
