Andrew F and Bill M came over last night and we got a lot done on the electrical needs. Found the fuel pump problem - the wire had been plugged into the wrong fuse, and the top of that fuse was basically a bus connected to half the car... Bill stayed until 1:30 AM figuring out all the wiring needed to connect the DME to the trunk/fuses. Kaefer had removed the entire DME harness when he took the engine (to be expected), and Jazz, from whom I got the harness when I bought his engine, had left the wiring forward of the DME in his car (also what I would have done if it had been me).
Today, I got almost all correct color wires (can't find a black 16-gauge wire with a violet stripe for some reason), ran them through the correct hole and up the the fuse panel, and if a few minutes I'm going to go out and solder the new wires to the cut ones by the DME. Used the "I'm saving money doing this myself so I should buy a tool to do it" excuse to buy a good soldering gun, and will banish my old soldering irons to the basement...
I'm planning on mounting the DME vertically on the firewall behind the driver's seat. As I haven't actually done that yet, anyone have a strong opinion that I should mount it elsewhere? I was planning on putting bolts through the firewall pointing forward and with a tight nut holding the bolt in place (so it's like a stud), then putting neoprene washers between that nut and the DME unit for mild isolation from vibration.
Then I plan to mount the G2X either in the passenger-side rear seat (on a level board mounted to the seat) or on the center tunnel in front of the shifter (where I mounted it in the Targa).
Will post photos later. Thanks again to Andrew and Bill.
