Good luck w/ the search for the issue. If its valve guides, drive the car close to redline in 2nd gear, then let off the gas and let the engine/tranny slow the car down. If there's lots of smoke, potential valve guide issue.

Someone is having smoking issues similar to yours on rennlist, no answer yet, but may be attributed to a performance chip issue. Not sure if you have stock chip or not.
