On our Boxster, the oil filter is under a plastic cover that looks just like the filter on our 944's. The difference is the Boxster's replacement filter is only the paper element inside, as opposed to the typical sealed cartridge used on most cars. I have the "wrench" that fits the Boxster; if the same for your project, you're welcome to borrow it if you don't want to purchase your own.
