I was planning on cleaning the top of the engine while I was in there. I have a can of gunk I was thinking of using, but I am worried it may be too harsh for the block/intake/etc. Any thoughts?

I was planning on doing the clean prior to the work, but then I thought about working in a big, wet greasy mess and now I think I will clean it AFTER the work is complete, but before raising the engine. Not ideal, in my opinion, but better than working in the greasy puddle.
