All the advice I got when I asked around was the same as what Kurt and Dirk have said. And it makes perfect sense.
Literally the only time my car is on the street any more is on the way to the track, returning from the track, or going to get inspected. But my thought process was something like this:
1.) I need to get harnesses because I'm sick of having to put my left knee up against the door.
2.) Harnesses dont' seem very safe on the stock seats, so I need to get new seats.
3.) If my torso is going to be more "fixed" with one piece seats and harnesses, I might as well add a little rollover protection since I need something to attach those harnesses to any way.
And then all three pieces (seats, harnesses and bar) went in the same day. But rollover protection wasn't the primary driver.
Couple notes about the DAS: You don't need to tear up the interior, but you do need to remove one section of insulation/carpeting between the shock mounts which you cannot replace unless you cut it. I just left mine out. The piece I'm talking about pops right out and could easily be replaced intact after I remove the bar.
There is enough effort involved in installation that I don't think this is something I would want to remove between events. I do, however, like that I can return the car to stock without any scars when I want to sell it.
And no, you can't use the harnesses in VA on the street. So you do have to leave the stock seat belts functional. Which you'll want to do any way to avoid leaving the SRS light on.
HTH Gunther. Let me know if you want to see the DAS bar in my car. The one for the widebodies is only slightly different.
