This car look familiar...? Does the side paint hint at anything ...?
How about from the back ...
Was perusing RRII photos on PP and saw that Wayne had shot these.
I thought I'd add it here as it was a track monster sporting a 3.5 twin-plug when in the SSPI Racing stables. Also, thought BettyC, Don W., Jim M. and other teeners would appreciate a couple of shots and story about a non 911 or 356 based car.
It is an original 914-6 that has been "HEAVILY" breathed on. Flares are custom and we ran 10F and 12 or 14R slicks on BBS 3-piece. Not sure what Black Forest Racing has in there now for power or what size wheel / tires they run. Complete cage and reinforced chasis and all floor pans are still in it (no tube frame F or R).
I ran it once at Sebring, Moroso and the Glen before it was truly sorted out. Was painted primer black then and was street legal to boot! Originally, an older citizen (careful...) had it built as a weekend car by the 901 shop and others. He unfortunately passed away ... not in the car. It went through a couple of paint jobs before getting the subtle SSPI Racing treatment.
Driving impressions with the 3.5L and Webbers: Monster torque ...not quite the beast the IROC is but much angrier than the 2.0L, Not what I would call a "finesse" car but wouldn't bite with a pendulum move either. Neutral enough to get you into REAL trouble when all 4 let go ... lots of fun on slicks or streets. Had some bump steer with the big rubber and squirrelly(sp) brakes b/c corner weighting wasn't completely sorted out. Looked better with the headers, megaphones and cookie cutters in the phones than with the puny piped mufflers on it now.
Fond memories .... perhaps it'll make it's way back to CT or NOVA ... hmmm....
