It's my wife's present as well....but I've been "road testing" it.
You might think about doing the same so that you can customize the splash screen, load music and pictures, charge it up, update the software, and input the "home" and other userful addresses.
I also learned all the neat nuances of the unit by using it. This way I can give her a quick "how to use" lesson after she opens it on xmas day
