The plasma cutter is standing down.
Had to take a break from working on the tub for some time but had a chance to gut the doors and finish up cutting and grinding the body. The tub is 99% done cut wise and I have gone after all of the easy and some not so easy to remove weight. There are some components that could be removed like the heater tubes that run in the rockers but they would be real hard to get out as it looks like you would need to open the longs to get them out. Start weight was 575 pounds for a stripped to the bone tub still in paint with doors. Stipped of paint, undercoating, seam seal and all the other goop it came down to 504 pounds. After going under the knife and only having the camber boxes added back in the tub is now 370 pounds. Cut 134 pounds off the tub. I think that you could get another 20 ponds off the tub if you went 100% nuts and went after all extra street needed metal. FG doors rather than gutted metal might help too but I need to find out. I am going to weigh the gutted doors and see the dif between my doors and FG. I like metal anywhere around me like a door as it is less likely to burn or shatter into a bunch of sharp shit I would need to crawl through.
575 to 370 is 205 pounds. This is my bottom weight as now is weld stuff on time. I am going to dump the metal recycle bin out in the paddock and take a picture before I hual it into work and pitch it. in the metals bin. Does anyone need cut off stuff? Roof cut off 2 inches in from all 4 edges W/sunroof hole and bunch of other stuff is free but does not look like it would be of much use. Plan to sell the rear 1/4 fender cutoffs.
I now have a bench mark weight of the tub and the 48 pound "bed frame" so I can weight the car as I finish each part of the build. Next stop drivers compartment cage, then susp reinforcements.
