Any recommended methodology to cleaning the steel nut? Or just take a fine tip something and slowly scrape out the AlOx/filth from the threads?

In dealing with aluminum thermostat housing and brass lines I don't want to over-tighten, but the leaking line seems about as tight as the non-leaking...

I finally got some time to go out to the cabin and take another shot at this. One spray of PB Blaster and one heating and the remaining oil line keeping me from taking the lines from out of the car...

Update 2:

The lines are disconnected from the car and the front cooler is out. However, the four lines are still connected to the t-stat, and I haven't been able to properly maneuver the lines...

Hmmmm, thanks. I'll have to see which is easier to budge. The t-stat support wouldn't have shown up in the picture. I had taken your advice and put a small block between the body and the t-stat.
