It's the side with the wire attached. The clips prevent the lugs from pulling out the front. When you release the clip, you pull the lug out the front.

it does need gears to couple the two shafts, but it doesn't have valves or camshafts. It's a blown, ported 2-cycle. i'd love to hear one running.
