Suspension mount welding - cost?

I have a friend in England who's shop is telling him his 67 912 needs new metal at all the suspension mounts - charging him close to $3k. Seems pretty high to me? Any thoughts/things he should ask?

Recommendations for fixing seats in 1967 912?

I have two problems - my original seats (with headrests) are very soft and saggy and the passenger seat has spereated along three seams.

SHould there be any kind of carpeting, soundproofing under the seats and in the rear footwells? Seems odd its just bare metal under the floor mats.
