928 Wheels

I posted this on 928 Renlist.

Wheel deals may not be real deals. Tell me.

I bought 4 (what I was told were) 928 wheels at the PCA Potomac Porsche parts swap last fall. Didn't look too closely, just took the guys word for it. Anyway, two are part number 928-362115 and the other two are 928-36102105. The first two had significantly less metal at the web than the other two, which incidently matched the four on my car. All are ET65-7Jx16.

Locally one guy wanted to buy two them for his 944 track car but he ran out of money before he had a chance to come by and look at them. I would feel very bad if I passed junk onto a fellow Porschephile, even if it was a 944 type.

Incidently, I took the best of the matching wheels to Wheel Worx to be cleaned up, and painted. To pi$$ off the 928 naturalists, the wheels are going to match the Guards Red original paint!

What does "metal at the web" mean? What style 928 wheels are these? design 90's? Phone Dials (or Telefon?), the "discs" style ones?

Turn any of the wheels upside down. The webbing is all the reinforcing bits around where the “peddles” or "spokes" join the wheel and the center section. Amongst other things I think these are called “trash can lids.”
