1987 924S

What does the dorki body know about the 1987 924S?

What is the difference between the 944 and the 924S? I understand the suspension is different, but how? What is different or the same about the motor?

Also, could it beat Todd's car on the track?

The 1987 924S motor IS a 944 motor.

The 924 body is lighter than a 944 body.

It should be a great track car.

Yes, the car could beat my car on the track, but you couldn't

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. ;)

DO IT

924S = 924 body + 944 NA motor. Not sure if the suspension is 944 or 924. I personally wouldn't buy one with as cheap and plentiful as 944s are, unless you like the narrow body look. Looking to buy one?

Actually, I have heard that the 924Ss are highly desireable, and perhaps better to have than a 944. I think that they are lighter and, IIRC, the aerodynamics are better.

I personaly think that the 944 is "prettier" but I probably liked 16 candles just a little too much.

long duck dong???

if it's the same motor and lighter chassis then it's a nobrainer... unless the body prohibits you from running anything over 195 sec. width tires

I am always on the prowl for something cheap and trackable as I would like to retire the Targa from that duty.

Good tip on the narrow body thing and tires, I didn't consider that. I have no inherant love of 924's just the price is right.

They make flares.

I just re-read the ad after contacting the owner. It's an auto.

924S has a “slightly detuned” ’44 motor, but is still considered marginally faster than “stock” ‘44s. They do weigh just a hair less but are more aero. Same drive train and brakes as ‘44NAs. Plenty of sites like Clark’s Garage give details on differences. The big draw back for me on the street would be the crappy HVAC, poor driving position and dorky ‘70s dash board layout. It’s just like the 931, go figure? It also has the lowest CD of any Porsche from the last century, and the smallest selection of wheel and tyre options since the “long hoods” (uses late offset). Now why exactly did I get a 931 for a race car:?
