WTB third brake light

I am looking for a third brake light for a 1987 911 Turbo that mounts on the whale tale. The part number is 911.631.072.00. If you have one or know of any leads please let me know.

Thanks,
David

David, Just a couple of questions regarding the brake light.
Are you replacing a pre-existing one that is not working or broken?
Have you considered other types of third brake lights?
I ask because I did this on my SC that had a Carrera tail. It was a major PITA. :x I had to remove the deck lid first. Then I had to remove the tail from the decklid to drill the holes. The wiring is fairly easy.
I bought mine from Hershey one year for $20. I'd try calling DC Automotive. They can usually get obscure parts like this. Be warned though, they break very easily at the neck.
I am currently running an LED third brake light from Pilot on my Carrera. It attaches inside the car at the top. }{arlequin is also running the same light. I'll see about posting pics tonight.

Ted,

Actually I bought a replacement tail/lid for my 1986 911 Turbo, and since it was off a 1987 Turbo, it had the exterior mounted light. Unfortunately when I was transferring some of the hardware from old to new, I leaned on the tail (that was laying upside down) and broke the plastic reinforcement that had held the embedded long nuts in place. My existing setup has the third brake light installed on the interior rear roof. But since the new lid has holes for the brake light, cosmetically I don't think it would look good to forgo the light.

At this point I think I may be ok. I stopped off and got a couple of tubes of epoxy and filled the lower chamber with that stuff and set the brass threaded screws into the mix. It seems to have setup a very strong bond that I think is far better than the original weak configuration. Tonight I will be carving out along the inner edge of the pedestal so I can re-install the rubber washer.

Thanks,
David

Is this what you're looking for?

I needed to replace the top portion of my third brake light, but had to buy the whole set up. It cost me $95. I never used the base or lens. It includes the cable and misc hardware.

Yes, please post a photo. I don't think I have seen this on your car. I have the same light and it's on my long list of stuff to do...

Vu,

Yes, that is identical to the one I have. How much are you willing to part with it for? Since my fix job of epoxing the posts back on seems to be doing the job, I am not in a deperate state but wouldn't mind having one as a spare.

Thanks,
David

It's yours for free if you need it...otherwise I'll just put it back on the shelf for a rainy day.

Mackpipes 05-12-2005 02:28 PM

Steve, you'll see it at the track.

Vu,

I am astounded, speachless...that you would offer it for free! Thanks. Since mine is hopefully going to work for many miles to come, and you weren't trying to clear it from your garage, I will leave it for the next person should you choose to extend this gracious offer to.

Thanks,
David
