Special Activity: May 14-15 DE

All PCA Potomac May 14-15 DE Participants

For the past several years one of Potomac’s highlighted member meetings has been our “Tire Talk” meeting featuring Paul Moorcones from Radial Tire. Every year we try to come up with something interesting and new; for example, our last Tire Talk meeting was attended by over 130 members to hear Paul and guest speakers from Fikse wheels and Hoosier tires. And of course one could argue that the raffle for a set of tires also adds to the "draw"!

Our tire activity this year will be held at the Potomac Drivers Education event at Summit Point on Saturday May 14 and it is open to all participants. As a service to those participating in the DE event, Paul will be available Saturday afternoon to provide tire wear analysis. For those of you who don’t know, Paul is a master at reading tire wear; his ability to assess setup and driving style from tire wear is uncanny, and he can make setup recommendations to optimize tire wear. In addition, arrangements will be made for Paul to take tire temperatures in the hot pit (likely on a lottery basis at the Driver’s Meeting). While most understand the importance of managing hot track tire pressures to optimize performance, tire pressures are in reality a quick and easy way to correlate with tire temps. There are a couple of significant data points that tire temps can yield: the hot temperature and the temperature spread across the tire; both can lead to recommendations that can improve grip and longevity. To properly take tire temperatures one needs to have an accurate probe that reaches the carcass of the tire, and the temps need to be taken hot – immediately when coming into the pits. This activity will be coordinated in each run group to ensure safe operation.

After the track goes cold at the end of the day, we’re planning to hold a Laps for Charity activity and Radial Tire will be sponsoring a BBQ dinner for all participants! Oh, and yes – all registered participants will be entered into a drawing for a set of new Toyo tires (must be present to win)!

See you at Summit Point in May!

Very Nice! Great timing on this. I've been wondering what reducing/increasing presures from the optimal presure will do to a cars handling.
Paul is a great guy to give us a piece of his VERY busy schedule for this.
I think a track event is a much practical venue for Tire Talk than at a monthly meeting. Thanks for setting this up. :D

BTW Eric, how's the rebuild progressing?

Paul is more knowledgeable and understandable than any other tire person I have ever dealt with. And he is fair in his pricing and honest in his recommendations.

I look forward to the discussion - after our driving.
