Gas Cap Seal?
Today when I got to work, I smelled a strong stench of fuel.
So I got out, checked the gas cap and noticed that it was loose. I removed it, and what was left of the orangish seal fell out in pieces. What can I put in place of the seal? Would Lowe's or Home Depot have some rubber that will work as a seal for the time being until I source another one? |
Mine is a rubber o-ring. 1 5/8" inner diameter, 2" outer diameter, 3/16" thick. Good chance you can find something like that at Lowe's/HD/etc.

I have a spare if you need it. Steve |
Thanks Chris and Steve :D .
For now I will search Lowes to see if they have something similar to Chris's o-ring. Steve, I will take the extra seal. Thanks man! I guess I will get it from you this Saturday. Thanks again brothers! |
Standard rubber isnt fuel safe, it can deteriorate when in contact with gas. I *think* the gas cap seal is the same as the oil cap seal.

Bite the bullet. Get the pn from PET and stop at your friendly Porsche parts depot and (perish the thought) buy one.
|
PN is 477-201-557. Probably cost Porsche $ .10 to make and they sell it for $5.00 plus something for the governamet.

I ordered 2 seals and a new cap from Pelican. Total cost was about $17. Seals were $4 I think, new cap about $9.

i have an old gas cap you can have.... ain't pretty but the seal is there....
