Chantilly wrenching invite for Apr 2nd
1 Attachment(s)
OK,
First off I wanted to see if there were any Northern VA P-Car owners that had April 2nd or 9th available for a wrenching get together. After 4 months and a lot of reading I have finally gotten all the parts together to put my '83 944 engine back together. Purchased Dec 4, 2004 not running and had it towed to my garage where it has been sitting since. Turned out that it was a little short of teeth, 14 missing from the timing belt to be exact. If it can't happen for whatever reason on the 2nd the following weekend April 9th works too. Here is the list of parts that I have in box ready for the rebuild. I am hoping that there is nothing left over in the boxes when we are all done. New Parts: - Oil Drain Plug - Oil Drain Plug Seal (22 X 27mm) - Exhaust Manifold Gasket (4) - Intake Manifold Gasket (4) - Head Gasket - Thermo Valve - Thermo Valve Seal Ring - Water Hose Flange Gasket - Cam Housing to head gasket - Gasket for oil temperature sending unit - Ignition coil - Injector seals - Intake boot - Plugs - Balance shaft belt - Timing belt - Exhaust bolts - Exhaust/Cat gasket - 3 Vacuum hoses (Under AFM/Air Box) - Rotor - Gasket material(Bulk) - O2 Sensor - Exhaust Hanger - Engine wire harness - Plastic cover for fuel rail - Rotor shaft - Lindsey vacuum line kit - rear water neck gasket - new thermostat gasket - new thermostat - alternator belt - power steering belt - oil filter - oil - antifreeze Last but not least - 1 used 944 head - speed and reference sensors Food and beverages will be provided but if there is something you prefer let me know or feel free to BYO. Second I wanted to thank a few Rennlisters and a dorki that have really helped out with getting the list together, Ken, Danny, Rock XSBoost and Andy! I have a few other things that I need to get done too and have the parts here too but I am trying to get the engine running at this point, first things first. ;) Sorry I didn't invite to pull it apart and drop the engine but technically it is still in the car, it's just everything above the block has been removed. So does that still count? Is the invite on time? Michael Feel free to IM me anytime if you have any questions. __________________ |

This looks like a great project for the 944/ 924 lovers, like DR, Tony and John Brown! |

It sounds like the pan is still on, and it is a pain to remove but you should give some serious thought about replacing the rod bearings. About $110 and eight or nine more hours of gut wrenching, knuckle busting… wait, I was trying to convince you it was a good idea  |
What's all the green liquidy stuff between the cylinders?

Jazzbass,
Silly man, that's antifreeze!!! Didn't ya know that back in '83 Porsche tried to lubricate the cylinders with it. I was able to pick up this rare example. IIRC think there was an oil shortage or something that year. I am still trying to figure it out as well. 5 reverse gears and only 1 foreward! Michael |

I'd love to join the fun but I just looked at my calendar, and I have 1 soccer game, 3 birthday parties and dinner at friends house that night. I thought We were supposed to relax on weekends? |
Still no takers? I could definitely use a hand... :?

dates
push it back a later date. or ask people the day before  ....
i thought the green stuff was for leak testing! (then thatwould be a big leak...need a bigger boat!) |
I may just have to do that. It looks like my head may not get here on time so its more engine cleaning and misc stuff for now I think. Relatives in town the 9th which means that it is going to have to be 16th.
What do people think about the 16th? Any other events happening that weekend? Michael |
