"Meet & Drive" 5/22/05 10am at the Starbucks i

We're doing our Spring "Rennlist Meet and Drive" again on May 22, Sunday at 10am at the Starbucks in Rockville MD. We'd like to extend the invite to you guys/gals if you're interested! It was fun meeting those of you who came for the November gathering in 2004. Here's the post that I put on Rennlist... we still need a new driving route and a possible suggestion of a restaurant too.

Here goes:
"Our last local " Rennlist Meet and Drive" for the Washington DC/Baltimore/N. Virginia folks was way back in November. Since April 23rd is the Hershey Swap meet, and June 25th is the National Swap Meet in Hershey - May 22, (Sunday at 10am) is kind of in the middle of all that.

For those of you that haven't been to one, a "Meet and Drive" typically consists of a bunch of Porsche driving folk meeting at one central spot, like the large parking lot in front of a Starbucks - from 10am-11:15am or so You'd find us chatting about our cars, checking out each other's upgrades, talking about recent road trips, catching up with other Porschefiles that we may have only communicated with up till now via the web forum, and generally just having a fun time being part of what becomes a "scene". Then, for those that want to, we take a winding, 30-40 minute drive to a lunch spot and have a nice, reasonably priced meal. Some stay for the food, others just drive on.

Hope everyone is getting excited to dust the cobwebs off your "garage queens" as warmer, salt-free, snow-free, sand encrusted roads-free weather is just around the corner. I have to admit that while I usually drive my 993 in the winter, I have kept it hibernating for about a month now. We haven't really had a good, soaking rain for 4-6 weeks, taking away all the salt that's been sitting on the roads. I can't wait till we get that rain, as I've been a bit paranoid to drive my car after what I've heard about the damage that salt causes.

Regards,
Steve R

Part 2: (this got posted after a bunch of people chose the May 22nd date over the May 1st date)

"So it's decided then by group consensus: the next Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia area (or wherever else you want to drive from!) "Rennlist Meet and Drive" will be May 22nd, at 10am. We can meet at the same place as last time, a fairly central spot for some: the Starbucks at Mid Pike Plaza
http://home.flash.net/~ral1/starbuck...s/DSCN8221.jpg
(11802A Rockville Pike Store, Rockville, MD 20852)
It's next to the Silver Diner in Rockville MD. To get there, just take I-495 to Rockville Pike North (Route 355 - I think it's exit 34), go 2.7 miles north on Route 355 and turn left on Old Georgetown Rd, then make an immediate right into the shopping center and look for Starbucks (it's across the way from the Silver Diner in the same parking lot). It'll be pretty obvious at that point as there should be alot of Porsches parked. You are now at ground central! Smile, let out a laugh, get out of your car, and be prepared to have some fun. Shake a hand, check out a car, grab a cup a' Joe if you like from Starbucks, meet a Rennlist member you've never met, and revel in the cammeraderie, regardless of what year or model Porsche you have. You're home.

At about 11:15-11:30 we'll start getting ready for a drive to a lunch spot, if you care to join us for that part. SO, here's where your knowledge of the area come in...does anyone have any ideas for an interesting yet easy to follow, winding, twisting drive we can take from that location? A drive that would last 30-45 minutes or so? Possible lunch spots: The Comus Inn in Comus, MD? Somewhere in Potomac? Northern Virginia? Frederick? Any ideas with a nice driving route included? It would have to be somewhere pretty reasonable...

(Check out pics of last years Meet and Drive in the spring...you never know what surprises lay ahead of you until you show up!)

So, who's in???

FWIW, A good possibility for back roads and good food and beer near Rockville is to head out through upper North East Montgy County and end up at the Olney Ale House. The place has very good reasonable food and a great selection of very good beer on tap.

Thanks for the reply, Dave. I live near the Olney Ale house and we love the place, but on a Sunday around lunchtime they can't handle a large crowd all at one table. Also, they don't take reservations as far as I know...

Anyone else have a suggestion for a route and lunch spot?

Ever consider a southern Maryland crab house like Robinsons in Popes Creek? There are some really good backroads down here: http://www.dorkiphus.com/porsche/viewtopic.php?t=2480
