A dorki will need help in the AM... broken lug nuts

My buddy Emery (s5uewf here on Dorkiphus) broke two aluminum lug nuts in the process of swapping to steel nuts tonight. I'm not exactly sure where they broke, but I believe down low... where the hexagon portion ends and the nuts flare out to hold the wheels on.

Anyway, he'll be out at the track in the AM looking for help trying to remove what is left of the nuts... so if anyone has some special tools that may help with this, please bring them along!

He'll also have the rest of the aluminum lugs to remove, since he stopped after the first two failed!

IIRC correctly, the proper tool is a 3/4" hole saw for a cordless drill. BTDT, and this is what I used. Tell him to get to Home Depot tonight and pick one up, and we and can drill the rest of the AL lugs off tomorrow. Also need a small cold chisel to get the remains of the lug nuts off.

I have the tools amd will bring them on Sat.

I used the 3/4" hole saw approach and all is well.
Thanks for the advise about how to deal with these.

The new steel nuts are all mounted and I can remove them
easily.

Sheesh!

Glad to hear you got it worked out :D .
Repeat with me Emery, torquey lug nuts, torquey lug nuts, torquey lug nuts, dorki lug nuts........
Oh and some anti seize doesn't hurt either :) .

94 ft/lbs my friend!

Don't ask me to convert it to newton/meters or whatever...

Hey - I put in my Steve Wong chip today after I got the
*&!@$ lug nuts squared away. How does that jingle go?

I should be down into the 3 minute range at SP in no time

Emery,

Glad you got the lug nuts fixed!!! Too bad your "touch it and it breaks" jinx moved to my house. While replacing my paper-thin rotors, I split open a new front while torquing it down to the hub!!! Guess I didn't have it seated quite right.

Oh well... the car will be in pieces until the replacement arrives.

On a side note... wow, those aluminum front hubs are light!
