loud noise coming from front?
I noticed yesterday when I was taking my car to get the alignment done, now that the lowering was completed, there was an intermittent very loud humming noise and a (electric razor type) vibration permeating through the body of the car when I would reach 80+ mph. The noise only happened one time and it seemed to come from the l/f of the car. After the alignment was performed, the tech that did my alignment, said he heard the noise also but it was only for a split second. Mentioned s/thing about possibly a wheel bearing & was willing to take a look. Driving the car from Rockville to just south of Frederick all seemed normal, no noise or vibration. Last night when I was putting my car away, I heard the same noise, only this time I was driving 10-30 mph pulling in my driveway. The first time it happened was about 20 mins. into my drive the 2nd time it happened was w/in 10 mins & the 3rd time was w/in 10 mins, so it seems the noise is occuring just as the front is getting up to operating temp. I read somewhere there was a Porsche service bulletin relating to this and the wheel bearing were the recommended repair. Can anyone comment on this or based on the limited description suggest a plan of attack?

About ten years ago there was a TSB about front grease seals producing a squeeling sound. Doesn't sound like your problem.
Why don't you pull it down to inspect. |
