Where to buy SAE 90 gear oil?

Anyone know of distributors that sell SAE 90 gear oil that you don't have to buy in a 150 gallon drum?

I would think any auto parts store would carry the stuff by the qt and maybe by the gallon. Quakerstate in Gaithersburg might also. Let your fingers do the walking! Call around.

www.ogracing.com carries RED LINE and Swepco. Red Line MT-90 (synthetic) goes for $7.75/qt. or 12 qt's for $82.25.

The owners manual recommends straight SAE90.

If I can get my hands on the stuff, should I use the that over the synthetics?

The common recommendation is Swepco 201 in a 915, synthetics dont seem to work all that well with Porsche synchros.

Howard, your 88 Carrera will be very happy with Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube, available at many auto parts stores. I used to get this stuff at Advance Auto Parts when I had my 993.

hmmm, 150 gallons....

Not a bad idea. mine leaks that about every 4 years...

I have had good success with sweepco...The sythetic does seem to hit the garage floor faster

Some of the above postings make it less than clear on the appropriate oil. My understanding (mainly from Bruce Anderson's book) is that Swepco is for use in the 915s, and a synthetic should be used for the G50s (1987 on).

I use various Redline products for tranny and transfer cases. They have a couple SAE 90 grade oils. I usually pick up Redline stuff at OG Racing.

We use:

741 box - swepco
901 box - swepco
915 box - swepco

G50 (and newer) - don't have any

You can get redline products (I run in my BMW's 2 differentials and transfer case as well as transmission) from a gas station on rte 29 in Falls Church. Go to redline site and the address is listed there. Where I got it last time and wasn't price gouged.
