48 1'x1' tiles for $130. Hmmmm.

Interesting stuff, Chris. It's more than $1k to do a 2-car garage. That's a pretty good dent in the cost of a 2-post lift. :D

Looks nice but expensive. And I'm not sure how easy it'll be to clean dirt, oil, dust, dog hair, etc from these. I prefer a smooth, slippery floor.

Real men use cardboard.

Too true! I can't pass by a big box without cutting it flat and hauling it home. BTW HBL is cardboard heaven. A daily stream of big part boxes if anyone needs some.

yeh, i gots the cardboard on slick floor. that way i can concentrate on the cars, instead of the floor...

I recently priced up tile for my shop. Needing 1200 sqft, it can get pretty expensive indeed.

Lowes sells 12"sq Armstrong vinyl commercial grade dryback tile for $0.63 per tile, making a box of 45 about $28.35. For me that's still $750 bucks, and kinda expensive, but would look nice in a checkered pattern. Only real problem - cars are ok, but hate waxing floors....

Heard of poor results with epoxy based paints. Looked into some systems, but am presently on the fence too. Let me know what you find. I need SOMEthing to keep the dust down and out of my powder coating process.

Epoxy is all about the preparation. There are other issues that I have with epoxy

* curing time -- You've got to clear out your garage for about a week to let it cure
* spot repairs -- If you chip/damage the epoxy, how do you fix it? Can you fix it?

I went with VCT. I threw it down over the course of the day and didn't have to clear out the garage all at once. Only one half of the garage was cleared at a time and I could move things onto the new surface within a few hours of placing the tile.

Hey Josh,
can you post a pic of your floor? From our last conversation, I am leaning away from the paint to the tile. I just finished the drywall, primer and insulation before the cold spell. Next step is another coat of paint and hit the floor in the spring.
