Change of Plans - Home PPI

Due to scheduling problems and the fact that I dont want to miss the opportunity on this car the owner and I have agreed to do a PPI at my house. I have already looked at and driven the car and talked to a couple of shops that have serviced it. Everything checks out ok.

I plan on doing compression and leakdown tests. Along with a thorough run through of all body/brakes/suspension…etc.

Another set of eyes is always good so if anyone is in the Gaithersburg area and could stop by this Saturday to give me a hand that would be great. Not sure of the time yet but appropriate refreshments will be available, i.e. b4 noon coffee and donuts - after noon beer and burgers/dogs.

BTW the car is on pelican

Frankie, I live up by Longdraft and Quince Orchard rd. I will stop by on Saturday to help you poke at that 911. Hopefully Chris(Jazzbass) can drop in since he has an '85 Carrera.
Uh Frankie, you might want to get rid of the link with the ad, Eli does check this board regularly and he currently doesn't have a Carrera   . J/K

Frankie -

I should be able to stop by this Saturday, I'm in Germantown pretty close to the G'burg area. Like Pari said, I have an 85 Carrera, so hopefully I can contribute something. Not too much I can think of in the way of a PPI that would be that different between a Carrera and an SC, except looking for cracked fuel lines in the engine bay.

When and where?

Yeah... heard that one before :D. You still have the 356?

Eli 01-04-2005 06:08 PM

Yep, still have it... primarily because the owner still hasn't gotten the title back from the finance company .
So far I turned away 3 people. If the previous owner doesn't come up with the title by the end of January the car will go right back into his garage.... Only fair, the guy signed a contract with me promissing the title to be delivered within 30 days of payment...that was back in November

Another neighbor. I live about 5 min up 28.
Will the guy let you get it MD inspcted prior to purchase. You'll have to do it anyway to get it registered. Technically I think it's the sellers' responsibility. I know the owner of the Darnestown Shell. I'm not sure if they do the inspections on Saturday, but if they do It would be money well spent especially since you will also be able to get it up on a lift and get a list of whatever is wrong from a safety standpoint. The Seller would have some respect for the report. You could work things out if something needs to be fixed.

On top of that inspection do the compression and leakdown.
Also do what you can to check the VIN number, engine and trans numbers to see if the Vin matches the title and the engine matches what should be in that year car. Many engines have been replaced over this many years.

I should be arround on Saturday and may be able to get out depending on the time.

That’s a good idea.

The owner is open to any inspection I want to do or have done. Ideally I could have it MD inspected first thing Sat. morning then bring it back to my house for the compression and leakdown. I will find out this afternoon about what time we are going to start on Saturday.

What a deal this car is, if it checks out. Good luck on your inspection!
