hard time coming out of gears...
Hmm...over the last couple of weeks I noticed that while slowing down or coming to a stop my 964 has a hard time coming out of gears (mostly 2nd through 4th).
This only happens while downshifting and while attempting to stop. Going through the gears on the way up is just fine.. I'm leaning towards the slave cylinder, and hope that changing and bleeding the brake fluid as well as the clutch slave will do the trick.. does anyone else have any other suggestions/ideas? :? |
Eli, that may help, as would fresh gear lube in the transaxle. OK, here's where I'm not completely certain but will still offer some thoughts...If the problem persists, I'd look at dropping the drivetrain so you can inspect and refurbish the shift fork. It has bushings, bearings and the shaft itself that might be worn. The later Carreras with a G50 tranny had some problems with the shift fork that were solved with an update to the fork assy. Ask RL. It may have been an issue with 964s, too, but I'm not certain about this.

THank you Jim. I'll start with the fluids and gradually work my way up.

I had this exact problem about a month ago. A change of the gear lube solved the problem. After much searching around the Internet and buying the wrong kind (Swepco), I ended up with the more recommended Mobil 1. Changed the fluid and the problem went away. I had already had the slave cylinder bled. Hope this helps.

Thanks Richard! I'm bleeding the cylinder at the open lift day this upcoming weekend. I'll pick up some trans fluid tonight and try it first thing tomorrow.
