10.20.04 PCA Meeting

Did anyone go? They were supposed to discuss the Parade. Can we get a recap?

APKhaos 10-20-2004 10:13 PM

Great meeting, with tons of info about Parade.
Can't tell anyone who was not there. Secret.

Jim Richards 10-20-2004 10:17 PM

Actually, it's double secret. Penalties for disclosure are unimaginable. 8)

Thanks to those who did show up. The weather was crappyl, but I suspect most stayed home to watch the Red Sox slam dunk the Yankees. November Pano will have all the registration info in it. There will be 700 entries accepted. Sounds like alot, but when you figure that in Zone 1 and Zone2 there are are over 15,000 members, suddenly 700 isn't that much. Parade to be held in Hershey using the Hershey Lodge and Resort as HQ. Concours/Car Show will be held at the historic Hotel Hershey and we are expecting close to 1000 Porsche on that Sunday. There will be a TSD Rally and a Gimmick Rally (separate days), one full day just filled with Tech stuff called PCA Academy day. Lots of hands on stuff. A HUGE museum celebrating PCA and their 50th anniversary. A full time Hospitality suite and an equally large Goodie Store with all sorts of parade, pca, porsche and car related stuff for sale. A parade of porsches finishing at the AACA museum (Antique Automobile Club of America). A two day autocross using the very smooth and expansive HersheyPark parking lots. And of course, lots more. Basically a great vacation with some Porsche friends :)

Parade dates are June 25 to July 2nd.

Sounds like a great stop on the way to The Glen. :)

Great work Manny!

Thanks Manny. Jim and Tony: :P

You can still attend and watch events if you don't participate? Right?

Stupid Palm Pilot forgot to remind me even though last week I scheduled out of town trips around it.

Newbie here... Can we assume, as Steve points out, that you can attend even if you don't "register" (whatever that means)? Will this also be an event that dorkis attend en masse? If you can go only for a day or two, which days would be best or are they all "best"? Where should we make hotel reservations? Dunno about Hershey, but I suspect some of us might wind up in Harrisburg, where I've spent some previous weekends over the past several years attending car events at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Any guidance appreciated.

Manny Alban 10-21-2004 11:35 PM

The Concours/Car Show is about the only event you can attend to spectate if you are not registered. I guess the swap meet qualifies, but I believe there is a small parking fee from Hershey Park. The car show part is more of a corral. It's not judged (unless you want to enter the concours, which is judged). We are anticipating this event to be a best attended. We'll be disappointed if we don't have at least 1000 Porsches on the fairways.

There will be provisions to handle people who show up that day, but those who register for the whole week will have full access to everything (which includes entry to all the competitive events, first shot at the auxiliary events, first shot at banquet tickets, hotel reservations, door prizes and of course, the goody bag give away).

Believe it or not, people on the west coast are already making plans to have caravans to Hershey. Being the 50th, this one is going to be extra special :)
