Should I buy a turbo?
 

i finally decided to sell my BMW ('90 525) since it never gets driven. To fill the void I was thinking of getting a turbo, actually a '79 light blue all stock turbo. Just wondering what folks thought as this would stem the flow of cash into my SC.

Buy the turbo. If you have the $$$, I can't see how this is even a question. BTW, be realistic - the only way you ever stop pouring money into a Porsche is if you sell it. :D.

Ive heard once you drive a turbo, its really hard to resist.

a 79 turbo might just be a bigger pit to fill. what are you doing with the car? Street, some DE, all track? Street, the SC will get the tickets just fine. Track, the Turbo will be a Big Hole to fill as there are many things to bolt on. 79 = 20+ years old and turbos were not normaly owned and driven by little old ladies.

I might be a bit biased -- but plan to spend some $$ on it if you buy a stock 930.

Here's your shopping list:

1) Kokeln intercooler $1800
2) K27-7200 turbo $1000
3) Headers and muffler $3000
4) 1 bar boost spring $100
5) Tires $1000 / 10000 miles

These aren't a necessity, but you'll have a tough time resisting the bolt-on upgrades and the quest for more power. These mods would take a 280hp car and bump it up to around 375 or 400hp.

Find a car that has a documented history, so you know WHEN the clutch was replaced, etc. That way you know what you're getting into and you'll only have to worry about the next mod.

I would think that a well maintained 964 2wd would be the better buy. Sock hp almost identical plus lower maintenance, easier to upgrade but not nearly as cool. :roll:

While I don't know the state of tune and use of your SC, how can you pass up to own a TRUE TURBO.. mm 1979.. best year of the turbos ever.. beastly to drive and horsepower is easy to get (but not necessarily cheap to get ;) )
