Tow Dolly woes for ARF

Thought I would be smart and buy a tow dolly. Picked one up when I was in SC but it didn't work. I couldn't figure out how to post pictures here so I posted on Pelican as Tow Dolly questions if you are interested. Anyway it is for sale, perhaps to someone who owns a Jeep, Land Rover or Rolls Royce. They should work, chevrolets and fords too.

John
Why would it work with those vehicles and not your big truck?? Also you didn't say how much. :)

$850. New cost is $1050 at the RV dealer of choice.

For $850 you could buy a steel trailer. Lot safer than a tow dolly. In fact I would not consider using a tow dolly. Rear end up in the air would have the chin spoiler on the road. Also have you seen those things sway? All braking is on the tow vehicle!!

Ahh, there is no ideal world. A $850 steel trailer does not come with brakes that I have seen. Same-o problem. I have towed Arf using a U-haul which has a different ramp arrangement and it was satisfactory. I did it twice. One time nose up the other time rump up. Also there is the matter of Maryland trailer licence every year and that is not cheap. Also, I already own a trailer for a 24' boat. My marriage is only aloted one trailer at a time! This is a world of choices, choices, choices and a few good excuses.

Some one needs to pony up for a Ford Super Duty and then we can split room in a 3-5 car hauler for DE events. :)

Isn't there an issue with towing a spoilered P car backwards? If the spoiler give down force in a forward direction, doesn't it provide lift in a backward direction? :?: Granted it would be a little difficult for the P car to lift it's tail weight AND the weight of the tow dolly, but it's an interesting issue.

Bought My steel trailer with brakes for around that figure.License for me in Md is $23 I think, with no more inspections. Can't help with the room/spousal laws etc. I have towed both my Targa with tail and 914/6 both rump first and nose first at upto 85 +mph with no discerible lift. Tail does get close to the tyre rack though.Keep the boat in the water where its supposed to be;)
