Sad News about one of our own
All: this was sent out by Paul Amico today. Steve was the first guy I met this year when I started running here, and was a wonderful guy with a great family. He drove a black 944 turbo in the black group. I'll be at his service tomorrow night.
Paul said: I have the sad duty to inform you that one of our instructors, Steve Mecklenberg, died today of a heart attack. An avid runner who competed in many events, Steve died while running to train for an upcoming marathon. He was 44 years old. I wanted to let the instructor corps know first Steve transferred to the Potomac Region when he moved here from Illinois a little over a year ago. He was an instructor for Chicago Region, and immediately volunteered to instruct for us, which he has done with distinction. There will be a viewing on Thursday, 22 July, from 6-9pm at the Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Street, Vienna, VA (703.938.7440). Services will be held at 1pm Friday at St. Luke's Catholic Church in McLean. Burial following the services will be at Columbia Gardens Cemetary. Steve leaves behind a wife and two young children. I have been informed that his company intends to establish a scholarship fund for his children. The details will be provided once the fund is set up, which will probably take a couple of weeks. I will send a follow-up e-mail at that time. |
That's real sad news, Terry. I feel very bad for his family.
