Get Low!
 

As some of you know, over the past few weeks I have had my SC on jackstands for initially what was supposed to be just a steering rack replacement. Yeah right :roll: ! I figure since I 'm going to need an alignment anyway, I might as well replace the rear bushings with Weltmeister Neatrix Bushings which means it's time to get low :twisted: :twisted: ! Charlie came through and saved me tons of time and frustration by helping me out.

First remove the torsion plate cover.

Remove the bolts holding the spring plate. With the spring plate off the 911, loosen the eccentric adjuster bolts and align it so the arm is in the middle. This allows fine tuning for the ride height later.

The most effective method is to heat the spring plates to remove old bushings.

With the bushings removed I used a wire wheel to get rid of this remaining rubber.

I left the stock torsion bars in.

The bushings were greased with Syl Glide and replaced. With the spring plate back on the car, the proper angle was calculated using the link in technical documentations room, http://vintagebus.com/cgi-bin/spring.cgi . The front end was lowered by turning the two bolts.
I also replaced all four shocks with Bilstein HD's in the front and Sports in the rear, and the difference in the ride is amazing :shock: ! It literally feels and handles like a new car!

The ride hieght is 25" fronts and 24.5" rear . Now it is so low that my muffler and front spoiler both scrape the driveway :twisted:.

Imagine this pic was taken at college. So, what d'ya think is going on here? 8)

Great job, Pari. Now you can save weight by eliminating the O2 system and mask.

I must say, that although your car look and drives a lot better now, I am disappointed. First, the car was only down for a week or two. Second, at no time to you pressure wash anything you took out. Also, what the deal with not ripping the interior out, pulling the fenders, and rewiring the headlights? The are all obvious steps necessary when lowering your car. What do you think - we're supposed to drive these things?
