Is it easier to remove the intake manifold to replace a injector sleeve or can the sleeve be installed with the manifold in the car?

What is the proceedure to reinstall the injectors with a new big bertha "O" ring? :?:

I don't know if you got my e-mail through here; but it is easier to pull inserts with runner still bolted to head. I have a special puller (blind hole puller) for these. But I was just now thinking that since the body of the injector is 8mm (I think), you might be able to tap the hole in the bakelite, thread a bolt, and pull the insert. Remember what I mentioned about the staking protrusions.

When I pulled mine, I used a stud that had wood threads on one end and machine threads on the other. I think it was about 5/16 or 3/8".
The wood threads self tapped into the insert and with a nut on the other end I recall using a tiny crow bar to pop it loose.

This is just one was of doing it. While looking arrund the shop I happened across the stud so I tried it.

As matt said it can be done with the engine in the car.

Matt can you explain your procedure for staking?

I use a "nail set punch" (I am not a carpenter). It is a small punch with a tapered point. I just hit the rim of the aluminum to cause a bulge at the top of the wall. One punch every 120 degrees.

I may have s*rewed the goose so to speak. It did not come out on my first thru eighth try so I have somewhat of a mess. I got it to turn but not pop out. More work tomorrow. I have exceeded my tool cribs capabilities.

Also, I just installed Windows XP and I am not sure what works and what doesn't yet.

If you have the runners out how about hooking the puller upto a slide hammer?

Bill, I used a tap. The material in the sleeve just fell apart. Since I don't know what these things look like I don't want to do too much prying or use a larger tap for fear of taking out some aluminum. I would suppose the sleeve sits on a ridge inside the manifold and there must be some overlap that you can get ahold of to pull up but I don't know how much.
