Hpde communicators 2026

My chatterbox stuff is dead. I threw it away before realizing I could probably fix it - but truthfully it was never great to begin with. Sooooooo, if you were on the prowl for a new set up for instructor/student communications (budget minded) what would you suggest. Of course links are helpful!
Thanks,
Denis

I have the Trac-Com V3 which is now discontinued and have been very happy with it. Well built with nice thick cabling that won't break and the student ear/mic shows no signs of wear. Sound is good for both instructor and driver and it is small enough to hold in your hand. I bought the IMSA adapter for my helmet since already prewired for the race car radio setup. Uses a 9V battery and lasts the whole season. I can't speak for the V4 version since it is relatively new but looking at it it seems to have the same cabling and is now rechargeable but also can use a 9V. Available at OG with your instructor discount!

I have the Trac-Com v3 and it's not quite loud enough for me (in some modern student's very quiet cars, it's plenty loud). Like Steve, I have an adapter to connect to my helmet communication system and use an external microphone for the student. Also remember I'm hard of hearing but wear hearing aids. The v4 is pretty expensive but is supposed to be significantly louder. I've borrowed the Speedcom unit, which is larger but louder than my v3. If you get a Speedcom, talk with Jordon A about a 3-D printed piece to strap it to your leg which apparently works really well (the Speedcom is meant to mount to a roll bar, which most of our students don't have).

Thanks Steve and Peter. I see a trac com v2 for sale on one of the classifieds for a good price - any input on that older system!

I have a trac com v2, and it works well. It is plenty loud (supposedly quite a bit louder than a v3), and takes 9V batteries -- I've never had a problem hearing anything, regardless of how loud the car is. If you get it, bring extra batteries; if you start hearing a bit of static, it's time to replace the battery.

Edit. I bought the v2
